The Los Alamos Hilltopper lacrosse team has its final regular season home game scheduled for Friday against Bosque School.
That game is set for 4:30 p.m. at Dara Jones Field in White Rock.
Lacrosse is a relatively new prep sport to New Mexico and schools competing in the sport are doing so independent of the New Mexico Activities Association, which governs most interscholastic prep sports in the state.
Los Alamos, which is playing its second year of lacrosse, has had a solid 2013 season, posting a 6-3 record to date. Los Alamos is currently tied with Bosque’s Bobcats for second place in state standings, meaning Friday’s game will be key for both teams’ seedings in the upcoming playoffs.
Quarterfinal round games of the playoffs are scheduled for next week. The finals are scheduled for May 11 in Albuquerque.
Los Alamos head coach Waytt Dumas said the Hilltoppers have played well together throughout the season.
“They’re putting the team ahead of themselves and showing a lot of maturity,” Dumas said. “We have a lot of fierce competitors on our team. They’re all pushing each other to play better and holding each other accountable.”
Following Friday’s game, Los Alamos will play a combined team from Sandia and Highland High Schools in Albuquerque Saturday to close out the regular season.
