The Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team will be back in action at home Friday night against the La Cueva Bears.
Los Alamos and La Cueva will face off at the county’s ice rink at 8:15 p.m. Friday, the first of two games for the Hilltoppers this weekend.
The Hilltoppers (1-2) split their two contests last weekend, routing St. Pius X at home 8-0, but falling to Rio Rancho 4-2 at Blades Ice Arena.
The Hilltoppers, who lost their opener at home Nov. 22, currently sit in seventh place in the 9-team New Mexico Interscholastic Ice Hockey League standings.
La Cueva (4-4) is led on offense by Matthew Key, who has 19 points (10 goals, 9 assists) on the season. Key’s teammate, Triton Nelson, is not far behind him, having picked up 9 goals so far.
The Bears are second in goals scored in NMIIHL so far, but top the league in goals allowed with 44.
Following Friday’s game, Los Alamos will face Cibola Saturday afternoon in Rio Rancho. Cibola is 1-5-1 and is right behind La Cueva in goals allowed on the year with 42.
In other NMIIHL action this weekend, Taos, Los Alamos’ main rival in the pure division, has a tough assignment, playing four games this week in El Paso against Coronado, the No. 1 team in the league, and No. 3 Franklin.
