This year’s Veterans Day community celebration will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, 1793 Deacon Street.

All veterans, their families and friends, as well as the general public are invited to attend. The local theme is “Courage, Sacrifice, and Duty – We Honor Those Who Serve(d).”

Veterans Day is a national holiday to thank and honor the 23 million living veterans that have honorably served their country in both wartime and peacetime. This year’s guest of honor and speaker will be Colonel Edmond Keith, USAF (ret).  Keith served over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. He commanded the 320th Expeditionary Mission Support Group during Iraqi Freedom and is a current division leader for Maintenance and Site Services at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Also on hand will be Reverend Glenn Jones from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Los Alamos, who will deliver the Invocation and Benediction. Jones served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Lunch will be served at the conclusion, courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

This is a joint community presentation organized by a variety of service organizations to include the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, the American Legion Post 90, Elks B. P. O.E. Lodge 2083, Knights of Columbus Assembly 0688, the Military Order of the World Wars Chapter 229, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pajarito Lodge 66, Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts of America, Los Alamos High School NJROTC, and a variety of other service organizations.
