The New Mexico Interscholastic Ice Hockey League will conclude its regular season this weekend, as will the Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team.
Along with the NMIIHL games, the league will host its All-Star Game and Skills Competition this weekend in Albuquerque. Saturday, Los Alamos will play the St. Pius X Sartans at 11:15 a.m., followed by the Cleveland Storm at 2:15 p.m.
The St. Pius contest will be at the Outpost Ice Arena and the Cleveland contest will be all the way across town at Blades Arena in Rio Rancho. Both those games will be broadcast on KRSN AM 1490.
In the current NMIIHL standings, Los Alamos holds a 4-point lead over St. Pius for third place. St. Pius could catch Los Alamos in the standings if it were to sweep both the Saturday game against Los Alamos and its Friday night game against La Cueva and the Hilltoppers drop both of their Saturday contests.
Los Alamos currently sports at 12-6-1 record and St. Pius is 10-8-1 going into this weekend’s play.
The league’s teams were off last weekend in observance of Presidents Day. In week 14, the Hilltoppers defeated Storm 5-1 in Los Alamos.
The All-Star Game and Skills Competition will feature 40 of the top players during this season. The Skill Competition is set for 10 a.m. and the All-Star Game at 11:45 a.m.
