After a grueling weekend, with three games in two days, the Los Alamos Hilltopper ice hockey team will surely welcome its lone scheduled game for week 13.
Los Alamos will take on the Cleveland Storm at home Friday night. Game time is 8:15 p.m.
The Hilltoppers went 2-1 in their games last week, topping the Taos Ice Tigers 7-1 at home Feb. 1 and nipping the Albuquerque OutKast 3-2 in its first game Feb. 2.
In their third game of the weekend, however, the Hilltoppers had little left in the tank playing the No. 2 team in the New Mexico Interscholastic Ice Hockey League standings.
Cibola, hosting Los Alamos in the Hilltoppers’ final game, won in an 8-2 rout.
Los Alamos is currently 11-6-1 in NMIIHL standings, which is good enough for third place behind El Paso (Texas) Coronado and Cibola.
Coronado clinched the NMIIHL regular season title with its 7-0 win over La Cueva last weekend. Coronado has lost just one game in 21 outings this season.
Cibola (15-1-2) cannot be caught for the runner-up slot. Los Alamos, meanwhile, is neck-and-neck with St. Pius X (10-6-1) for third in the standings.
There are only two weekends remaining in the league’s regular season. The final weekend of play is scheduled for Feb. 22-24, as the teams will take a break to observe Presidents Day the weekend of Feb. 15-17.
