JACONA – The Los Alamos Hilltopper football team got its season off on the right foot with a big win Friday night.
Los Alamos established its multi-pronged run game early against the Pojoaque Valley Elks, scoring touchdowns on its first two possessions. The early touchdowns set the tone for a big 43-14 victory at Jacona Field.
Xavier Dennison rolled up 113 yards in the first half alone, busting through with four runs of 18-plus yards on a big night at his new fullback spot, while quarterback Brice Van Etten ran for a pair of touchdowns in the first half and threw a touchdown pass in the second half.
It was the first season opener for Pojoaque Valley under its lights, which were installed, last season, but the Elks couldn’t get much going until the third quarter after they were already down by four scores.
