Without most of its top players this weekend, the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls tennis team still managed to hold on for a victory over the Bernalillo Spartans.
The Hilltoppers, using mostly their junior varsity lineup, split a pair of duals in the pre-District 2-4A tournament Saturday in Santa Fe. The Hilltoppers nipped the Bernalillo Spartans 5-4 in one of the two duals, but fell to the Española Valley Sundevils in the other, 6-2.
Most of Los Alamos’ top players were in Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend for the Cheyenne Mountain Invitational.
The pre-district tournament is used to determine seedings for the 2-4A playoffs. That tournament is April 27.
Against Bernalillo, Kiersten Temple made the most of her opportunity, picking up a straight-set victory over Allyson Worrell-Hurato and teaming with Kate Margevicius for a win at No. 2 doubles.
Also winning for Los Alamos was Ally Edelmann at No. 5 singles and Becky Cai at No. 6 singles. Caitlin Dahl and Trisha Barks were winners at No. 3 doubles.
Against Española Valley, Bridget Daughton and Danielle Oritz were winners in singles, but Española Valley swept the doubles contests.
