Only three teams were represented on this year’s All-State Class 4A softball first team and Los Alamos wasn’t one of those four.
Five players from Piedra Vista were named to the first team for the 2012 season by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association, which does the statewide selections. Just behind Piedra Vista was Los Lunas, which earned four selections, while Aztec outfielder Dakota Kaufman was the lone representative from the rest of Class 4A.
The remainder of the state fared only slightly better on the second team All-4A roster, with Artesia placing four players and Farmington getting one slot. Aztec had three more second team selections and Piedra Vista had one more. No Hilltoppers were named to this year’s All-State teams.
Piedra Vista clinched its seventh consecutive state title this season, going undefeated in the Class 4A playoffs. It defeated next-door neighbor Aztec 6-1 in the championship game May 12.
