Los Alamos’ girls tennis team finished in the middle of the pack in this weekend’s Albuquerque Academy Invitational.
The Hilltoppers finished fourth in team standings at the tournament, which was played Friday and Saturday at Academy. Farmington, one of the favorites in Class 4A this season, won the team competition, while the host Chargers finished second.
Along the way this weekend, the Hilltoppers’ top singles had solid outings.
The Hilltoppers’ No. 1, Sidra Hsieh-Ratliff, knocked off Goddard’s Brittany Maidment and Belen’s Esperanza Herrear in the top draw – Hsieh-Ratliff held on in a tiebreaker against Maidment after the two split sets.
In the No. 2 singles draw, Laura Whicker dropped Rose Baca of Belen 8-3 and swept Cristina Sartain of Goddard 6-3, 6-2, while Hannah Cunningham had a pair of wins at No. 3 singles, defeating opponents also from Belen and Goddard.
Whicker teamed up with Maia Meneffe and Cunningham with Lauryn Anaya to earn wins in the doubles draw.
Next up for Los Alamos is the pre-District 2-4A tournament which is set for Friday in Santa Fe.
