Both Micaela Christensen and Kristin Christensen went long Wednesday as the Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team downed the Santa Fe Demons.
Micaela Christensen hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first and Los Alamos broke the game open with a 4-run fifth inning. Los Alamos cruised to a 9-5 victory, sweeping Santa Fe for the 2013 season.
Santa Fe, which has put up some good offensive totals this season, had just one big inning, the top of the sixth, against Hilltopper starting pitcher Jordan Hammock. Santa Fe had a pair of doubles off Hammock as it tried to stay in the ballgame, but Hammock, who threw 101 pitches in the contest, was able to finish out the inning and pick up the victory.
“Santa Fe always has good batters,” Los Alamos manager Roger Anaya said. “I wasn’t surprised to see them put the ball in play the way they did.”
Offensively, Micaela Christensen was 3-for-4 and drove in 5 runs, while Erin Kirk went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Kristin Christensen scored twice and batted in a pair of runs for the Hilltoppers (11-11 overall, 7-2 in 2-4A).
Los Alamos travels to Española Valley for a District 2-4A doubleheader Saturday.
