The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls tennis team easily dispatched the Santa Fe Demons during Monday’s dual contest in Los Alamos.
Los Alamos won five of six singles contests and swept the doubles matches to take an 8-1 decision. The win comes just days before the Hilltoppers and Demons will take part in the District 2-4A championship tournament.
The Hilltoppers gave up just 10 games in singles play to the Demons. Gillian Hsieh-Ratliff at No. 2 and Colleen Fitzsimmons at No. 3 lost just one game between them Monday.
The closest-contested match of the day, at No. 3 doubles, saw Emily Funsten/Gwynn Cunningham of Los Alamos escape with a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 victory. No other match went beyond two sets.
Los Alamos’ girls are the heavy favorites heading into the District 2-4A tournament, which starts Friday and continues through Saturday.
The Hilltoppers haven’t been defeated at the district tournament since joining 2-4A in 2000.
