LA drops home contest to the Pintos

After a stinging loss Tuesday, the Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team is hoping the return of its basketball players to practice this week will help get it on the right track.
Los Alamos fell to the Moriarty Pintos at home Tuesday.
Los Alamos fell behind 11-0 after three innings but its comeback attempt in the late innings fell short, with the Pintos prevailing 11-7.
The loss dropped the Hilltoppers to 1-5 on the season. More importantly, it was the fourth loss of the season to a Class 4A team against just the lone victory over Grants.
Going into Tuesday’s game, Moriarty was 0-5 and had been outscored 71-14 on the season.
Los Alamos manager Roger Anaya said Los Alamos has made several errors in bad moments that have led to big innings for the other side.
“There are times when we can get out of an inning, then an error happens, then instead of getting out of the inning with just one run, we give up two or three,” Anaya said.
Los Alamos needs to come out from the start of its games better, too, he said.
Falling behind early is something the team has done in several of its early-season games. It trailed 5-0 to Miyamura before falling in that contest 7-5 in the final round of the Piedra Vista Invitational.
