SANTA FE – The Los Alamos Hilltoppers rushed for 315 yards and had a long, clock-killing drive in the second half as they topped the Santa Fe Demons 30-20 in a critical District 2-4A football game Friday.
Los Alamos’ Arnoldo Ortiz flirted with his third straight 200-yard rushing game Friday night, toting the ball 33 times for 179 yards and a first half touchdown to help the Hilltoppers improve to 2-0 in district.
Los Alamos and Santa Fe both went into Friday’s contest off of big district-opening wins and would’ve been firmly in the driver’s seat for a 2-4A crown with a victory. Now, to earn the title, Los Alamos needs just two wins over struggling programs, Española Valley and Capital, to earn its first trip to the postseason since 2008.
