The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team earned a big victory over the Santa Fe Demons Tuesday night and, in doing so, clinched its fifth consecutive District 2-4A title.
Los Alamos’ Naomi Movshovich earned a hat trick against Santa Fe, scoring three goals as the Hilltoppers routed the Demons 5-0 at Sullivan Field.
The victory not only clinched the 2-4A title for the Hilltoppers, but also clinched a Class 4A postseason bid. The Hilltoppers, who were No. 1 in the last two statewide girls soccer polls, will most likely be looking at a top-four seed and a probable first-round bye when the tournament selections are announced following the conclusion of the regular season.
However, based on the current Class 4A poll, which closes Sunday, St. Pius X is well on its way to taking over the No. 1 spot. St. Pius defeated Los Alamos Friday, 2-0.
Los Alamos (13-5 overall, 5-0 in 2-4A) has just one district contest remaining, that coming Tuesday at Capital. Following that, the Hilltoppers will play a couple of postseason tune-up games, one at St. Michael’s and the other at Aztec.
Amy Neal and Chandler Art both picked up goals Tuesday to go along with Movshovich’s hat trick. Neal and Art also had assists, while Leslie Guarello was credited with a pair of assists for the Hilltoppers.
Bryce Theesfeld and Natalie Brenner split time in goal for Los Alamos. Both goalkeepers finished with two saves as they combined for the shutout, the eighth of the season for the team.
Los Alamos has not been scored upon in a District 2-4A contest since 2006. This season, it has outscored its district opponents 29-0 through five games.
