The Los Alamos Hilltopper C team football team fell into a hole in the first half Tuesday.
Despite a better showing in the second half, in which it outscore the host St. Michael’s Horsemen, Los Alamos fell 44-24 at Brother Abdon Field.
Los Alamos (0-2) held the Horsemen to 12 points after halftime but its 16 second-half points weren’t enough to spark a comeback.
Quarterback Danny Finn, who has been playing up with the varsity during the early part of the season, connected on a 55-yard touchdown pass to Skyler Veenis in the first half. Finn also had a 60-yard scramble for a touchdown and a 2-yard dive for another score late in the contest.
“These young players are getting better every day,” C team coach Marco Lucero said. “When they get to compete with a team closer to their age, they do great. It’s tough when the opponent puts in their older, bigger players to go against our younger and less-experienced guys.”
Mateo Cardiel, Wes Skidmore and Chandler Lauritzen all scored on two-point conversions Tuesday.
The Hilltoppers will have a short week this week, as they will travel to Moriarty Monday afternoon.
