The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys soccer team may have gotten a big shot of confidence heading into a huge game Saturday.
Los Alamos came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit Thursday to top the La Cueva Bears in overtime.
The Hilltoppers, who kept the Bears out of the net for the balance of the game, scored the equalizer in the second half and the game-winner in the first overtime period to win 2-1 at Sullivan Field.
The win comes two days ahead of its most important contest of the season so far. Los Alamos will face the Capital Jaguars for the first time this season Saturday. The winner of Saturday’s game will grab early control of District 2-4A.
Capital (6-5) has lost just one game on the field this season — its other four losses came via forfeit after it was found to be using ineligible players in those games, all wins.
For the Hilltoppers (7-8), their defensive effort was led by Chris Parker. Parker grabbed nine saves against Class 5A La Cueva (7-5) to preserve the win.
