The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team earned a shutout against a solid Class 4A team on the road Saturday.
Los Alamos earned goals in each half as it topped the Piedra Vista Panthers 2-0 in Farmington, one of two tune-up games the Hilltoppers (15-3) have scheduled late in the regular season to get set for the upcoming playoffs.
Katelyn Leslie scored late in the first half and Amy Neal tacked on an insurance goal in the second half while Los Alamos’ defense posted its 11th shutout victory this season.
“I’m very happy with the game,” Hilltopper head coach Jiri Kubicek said. “You never know what’s going to happen when you come up here. 2-0 is a solid win. We didn’t give them any opportunities.”
With just two remaining games, Los Alamos is on the very short list of teams that could get the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Class 4A playoffs. Saturday’s win over Piedra Vista (8-8), which played well in the nondistrict season but has struggled against tough District 1 competition, could boost the Hilltoppers’ chances of grabbing that top seed.
Los Alamos locked up its sixth consecutive district title last week with a 4-1 win over Santa Fe, a game in which Kubicek was unimpressed with his team’s execution.
