SANTA FE — As expected, the Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team wrapped up District 2-4A play with another big win.
The Hilltoppers scored four goals in each half at Jaguar Field Tuesday, routing Capital 8-0. The win completed a sixth consecutive undefeated district season for the Hilltoppers, who have just one more game remaining on their 2012 schedule.
In all, six Hilltoppers got into the scoring column. Forward Leslie Guarello, a senior, picked up a hat trick, posting her third goal midway through the second half.
Despite the big victory, Los Alamos head coach Jiri Kubicek said it was a low-energy game for his team, which will finish off the regular season Thursday at home against St. Michael’s.
“It was one of those games, you don’t want to be in it,” he said. “It’s hard to show up for these kinds of games.”
To its credit, Capital (6-9 overall, 2-3 in 2-4A), in contrast to most of Los Alamos’ district opponents in recent years, actually attempted to play with a standard formation rather than stuff 10 people within a few yards of its own goal and hoping for the best — a tactic that almost never works at the prep level.
Guarello scored in the 7th, 20th and 56th minutes, upping her season total to 11 goals.
