The first big Class 4A test for the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys soccer team didn’t go as well as the team had hoped.
Charles Klepac and Jeremy Klepac combined for four of five of the Farmington Scorpions’ goals Saturday at Hutchison stadium. The Scorpions, which the Hilltoppers feel might be the team to beat in Class 4A this season, scored a big win Saturday, cruising to a 5-0 victory.
Klepac, a senior, also had an assist to go with his two goals Saturday, while senior Ryan Reeves finished with a goal and an assist.
Los Alamos (1-1) had five shots on goal in the game, all of which were picked up by Farmington’s two goalkeepers, Cort Cox and Isaac Kynast, who split time to take the shutout win.
Saturday’s game pitted the two most recent Class 4A champions. Farmington, with a veteran lineup similar to the one it has this season, topped Los Alamos for the 4A title in 2009. Los Alamos, of course, won the 4A title in 2010.
The Hilltoppers and the Scorpions could run into each other again this weekend, however. Both teams are playing in the Louie Cernicek Invitational, which starts Friday, although the two teams are on opposite sides of the bracket.
Los Alamos opens the tournament against Goddard, while Farmington will face Class 5A Clovis in the first round.
