ALBUQUERQUE — The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls track and field phenom Chase Ealey once again cemented her place in prep history this morning.
Ealey, a senior, shattered her own record this morning at the Class 4A state track and field meet in the shot put. Ealey, in her next-to-last throw of the day, tossed 47 feet, 3 inches.
The throw blasted the mark she set in 2011 of 42-3 1/4.
“I didn’t think I was going to get that far,” said Ealey of her record-setting throw. “I felt really relaxed and stuff. I really didn’t think it was going to go that far.”
Ealey is the reigning Class 4A high-point athlete and will compete in the javelin this evening, which she won in 2011, and in the 100 meter dash, an event in which she is the three-time defending champ.
As a team, Los Alamos is favored to win its fourth straight championship heading into this year’s meet.
