The summer just got a whole lot busier for three University of New Mexico Lobos, including former Los Alamos standout Alex Kirk.
Kirk and Kendall Williams have been selected as two of 48 players to try out for the United States squad that will compete in the World University Games, to be held in Kazan, Russia, July 6-17.
Along with them, Cameron Bairstow will head back to Australia to try out for the Australian team to compete in the same event.
The United States tryouts will take place in Colorado Springs, Colo., from June 24-30, with head coach Bob McKillop of Davidson College coaching the team that travels to Kazan.
Should Williams or Kirk make the squad, they would head to Russia via Istanbul, Turkey, July 1, then return to the U.S. right after the World University Games.
Assistant coaches on the team are Michigan head coach John Beilein and South Carolina head coach Frank Martin.
Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim is the chair of the USA Junior National Team Committee and finalized the list of invitees.
