JV softball team tops Elks, hosts tourney this weekend

The Los Alamos Hilltopper junior varsity softball team opens a home tournament today following a big win Tuesday.
Los Alamos scored 8 runs in the bottom of the second and tacked on 5 more in the bottom of the third as it blasted Pojoaque Valley 13-0 in five innings at Overlook Park.
The Hilltoppers (3-0) pounded out 19 hits in the game, in which 12 players who appeared at the plate had hits and seven of those had multi-hit games.
Leading Los Alamos against Pojoaque Valley was Shelby Chavez, who went 3-for-3.
Los Alamos’ Katelynn Thorn, Rebecca Luster, Elizabeth Anaya, Hannah Mojica, Taylor Jaramillo and Taylor Collins all had two hits.
Mojica started the game and picked up the victory. She struck out three hitters while Madeline Lockhart struck out two hitters in relief. They combined to give up just four hits.
Los Alamos’ home tournament continues through Saturday in White Rock. The Hilltoppers were scheduled to face Los Lunas and Pecos today.
