There are a lot of parallels that can be drawn between the upcoming Super Bowl and the 2008 Super Bowl.
Of course, the same two teams, the New England Patriots and the New "York" Giants (they play in New Jersey, their corporate office is in New Jersey and a fair number Giants fans are in New Jersey…but they're a New York team, of course). The Patriots are favored, the Patriots have a tremendous offense and the Giants have a solid pass rush that may give quarterback Tom Brady some problems.
New "York," of course, upset New England in 2008 with New England looking to become the first 19-0 team in NFL history.
Ultimately, this game is going to come down to whether the Patriots will be able to adjust to the Giants' pass rush, or whether the Giants' front four can reach Brady enough to keep him off-balance.
That question is kind of a coin flip. New England adjusts its tactics as well, if not better than, any other NFL team. If New "York" can get pressure AND contain Patriot tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Adrian Hernandez, the Giants will win. If they can't and the game becomes a shootout, that favors the Patriots.
I'm going to say the Giants will struggle to do both of those things. The Patriot defense is porous, but has done pretty well during the playoffs, while the Giant offense can be wildly inconsistent.
I'll take the Patriots in a close, high-scoring affair. Patriots, 45-41.
