Joseph 'JW' Trujillo Sr.

TRUJILLO - Joseph “JW” Trujillo Sr., 85, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. It is with great sadness that we announce his death. Trujillo, a native New Mexican from Bernalillo, served with the U.S. Army from 1940-1945. After his discharge, JW was employed as chief of Supply, Immigration and Naturalization Service at the Japanese Internment Camp in Santa Fe.

He and Roselia, his wife of 63 years, moved to Los Alamos in 1947 where he was an accountant for the Zia Company. In 1951, Trujillo joined the Atomic Energy Commission as an accountant. Two years later, he transferred to the AEC Protective Force. JW was a founding member of LULAC and was instrumental in establishing 37 councils throughout the Southwest. He served as regional governor for the Southwestern States in the 1950s and in 1957 was elected Outstanding National LULAC Man of the Year. Trujillo was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Elks, and he served as chairman of the Los Alamos Town Council in the 1950s.

JW opened a tax service and continued successfully after his retirement in 1979 from the AEC as a tax accountant and real estate investor throughout New Mexico. JW and Roselia moved to Albuquerque in 1995.
