Adam Izraelevitz, a senior at Los Alamos High School, has been chosen as the Rotary Club Student of the Month for February. He recognized Joy Handsberry as his honored teacher. Handsberry has greatly inspired and motivated him in his academic pursuits and advised and supported him throughout his high school career.
Izraelevitz has been very involved in the Los Alamos community. He volunteers at the Los Alamos Jewish Center, teaching Religious and Hebrew School, and uses his musical talents to perform on the piano at different community events, including the 2007 Hospice Memorial Service, and several concerts at Sombrillo and Aspen Ridge.
In addition, he served as a volunteer in a summer enrichment and remedial program for elementary school children for several years.
Izraelevitz has also excelled academically, earning a grade point average of 4.0 or above since his freshman year. He is a National Merit Semi-Finalist and a member of the National Honor Society.
Izraelevitz is planning to study engineering at Cornell University beginning this fall.
He started a Juggling Club at LAHS, and played xylophone with the Marching Band. He is a member of the LAHS swim team, enjoys competing as a member of the Los Alamos Water Polo Club and is an avid backpacker.
He is the son of Terry and David Izraelevitz.
