Dear Editor,Every once in a while a little thing happens that causes you to reflect on the priorities in the average American’s life. I sometimes wonder if we don’t have things just a little mixed up. Take the movie that is being shot in Los Alamos right now. This is a good thing, right? It heats up the local economy, gives us something to talk about at parties and brings a little excitement to town. Yes, it is good thing. Sure, there are detours now and then, but the movie folks seem to have figured out how to minimize the impact on the locals and still get their job done. It was no big thing then, when the video story tellers asked the county for help shooting a scene at the airport. Seems that they wanted a few planes moved so that they could get the right backdrop for their scene. The county asked folks to move their planes for a few days, and most everyone was happy to oblige. Heck, a lot of Los Alamos airport denizens will probably go to the movie just to see their airport on the big screen. So what is the little thing? Well, it seems that there is some important military research going on at the airport. It’s likely that this research will help to protect the lives of American soldiers at risk overseas. Well, guess what else had to move to make room for the movie?
