Isotopes stymied by Sounds

Nashville pitcher Johnny Hellweg stymied the Albuquerque Isotopes for the second time this season Thursday.
Hellweg allowed just one unearned run in six innings on the mound as the Sounds nipped the Isotopes 3-2 in their series finale.
Hellweg (9-4) has a PCL-best 2.44 ERA and has given up just two runs in 12 innings against the Isotopes this season.
Albuquerque returns home tonight for the opener of a series against New Orleans.
Albuquerque split the four road games with the Sounds, in which the Isotopes had an uneven offensive showing.
Rob Rasmussen of Albuquerque is winless in five decisions this year and was the hard-luck loser Thursday, giving up three runs in six innings.
Despite the loss, the Isotopes (59-47) are still tied with the Round Rock Express for first place in the PCL American Southern division standings.
Albuquerque’s Nick Buss drove in both runs, pushing Scott Van Slyke home on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, then just beating a potential double-play ball in the eighth, on which Tony Gwynn Jr. scored to put the Isotopes within one run.
The series with the Zephyrs is the Isotopes’ Breast Cancer Awareness homestand.
There will also be a fireworks display following Saturday’s night’s game.

Herrera back up with the Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled utility infielder Elian Herrera prior to Thursday’s game.
Herrera is up with the big club for the third time in 2013.
This season, he has gone 2-for-7 (.286) at the Major League level and started two games.
