Following two straight shutout victories for the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Isotopes themselves had a quiet offensive outing.
Sacramento’s Travis Banwart (7-5) and two other River Cat pitchers held the Isotopes to just four hits as the River Cats prevailed 5-1 in Sacramento.
The Isotopes were limited to four singles in the game, with right fielder Nick Buss driving in the team’s only run in the sixth.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, Albuquerque had won two straight games via shutout, including Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over the River Cats — behind Matt Magill’s six scoreless innings — in the opener of the current four-game series.
The third game of the series is scheduled for tonight. Albuquerque returns to Isotopes Park Aug. 8.
Sacramento (58-54) scored a pair of runs in the first inning and pushed three more runs across in the fifth. Albuquerque starter Rob Rasmussen allowed three solo home runs in the fifth inning which knocked him out of the game.
Rasmussen (0-5) gave up seven hits and issued four walks in 4-1/3 innings before giving way to Red Patterson.
Buss’ infield single drove in Tony Gwynn Jr. after Gwynn led off the inning for a walk. The RBI was Buss’ 81st of the season.
