Matt Magill had a dominating performance and got plenty of run support as the Albuquerque Isotopes thumped the Nashville Sounds 9-1 Wednesday.
Magill allowed just one run on three hits in 5-1/3 innings of work, striking out 10 batters as he improved to 3-0 on the season. Magill fanned six Sounds batters in a row at one point.
Meanwhile, the Isotopes, who have been reeling of late, got their offense going. Nick Buss went 2-for-4 and hit his 14th home run of the season, while Brian Barden went 2-for-5 and had a RBI. Dee Gordon had a pair of hits and swiped his PCL-leading 37th base.
There was even more good news for Albuquerque Wednesday, as Round Rock’s Express dropped their contest. Albuquerque and Round Rock are again tied for the American Southern division’s lead.
Rob Rasmussen is scheduled to start for the Isotopes (59-46) tonight in the fourth and final game of the series between the two teams. Albuquerque has won 8 of 10 contests over Nashville in 2013.
The Isotopes return to Albuquerque Friday to face New Orleans.
