The original intent to have a concert featuring Christian singer Steve Green was to celebrate the opening of the new Crossroads Bible Church building. This intent, however, received a slight revision.
The building is not ready for its opening day, but that doesn’t sour the celebratory mood. The show must go on.
Green will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at White Rock Baptist Church. Green is an award-winning performer.
He has received four Grammy nominations and seven Dove Awards, which is Christian music’s highest award.
Plus, Green has 29 recordings to his credit and has sold more than 3 million albums worldwide.
He credits in his career in music a college professor. “When I enrolled in college in Phoenix, I fully intended to be in law. That had been my childhood dream but my music professor talked me into taking private voice lessons ... it wasn't long before I really loved it.”
“He is a fabulous tenor,” concert organizer Gretta Christensen said. “He is phenomenal. He has a range on him that just doesn’t stop.”
Christensen said she has listened to Green’s music for years and years and decided it would be great to bring a performer of his caliber to a small town.
The visit is also exciting to Green. “First of all, I have never been to Los Alamos,” he said. “It is my first visit. I am thrilled after singing for 25 years to visit Los Alamos. I lived in New Mexico for three months in college. My parents lived in Farmington. I love New Mexico and this will be a great treat to be back.”
In addition to Green, his wife, Marijean and a sound engineer will participate in the show.
Christensen added Crossroads will provide an ensemble to perform on some pieces.
Traveling to areas such as Los Alamos have been some of the highlights of Green's music career.
“I have gotten to travel to 50 countries around the world,” Green said. “I have seen the beauty of many cultures and learned from all the places I've been able to visit. Because I am a message driven artist it has been my great joy to communicate my faith through my music wherever I go.”
Tickets cost $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
