The Caf Scientifique Youth Leadership Team from Los Alamos High School is hosting a follow-up activity to Dr. Joyce Guzik’s recent talk on the sun.Teens are invited to join in the activity, which will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos lecture hall. The activity is an interactive program exploring human engineering of Earth’s climate. This free program will be interactive where teens will engage in small group interactions and discussions about human engineering the climate to counter-act the anticipated warming during the next 100 years. The follow-up caf will have participants become experts in one aspect of this new field of science in order to engage in discussion and debate about what action, if any, should be taken to counteract the warming trend anticipated in the future.Proposed actions include adding iron to the oceans, sulfate particles to the upper atmosphere, or deploying mirrors or other shields in space to block the sun’s energy from reaching Earth's surface. The Youth Leadership Team would like to emphasize that the Caf’s are designed so that they are of interest to all teens. Everyone is welcome to attend. Nachos as requested and drinks will be served, and teens are eligible to win door prizes.
