Ten high school students along with four adults from Los Alamos’ Sister City in Russia, Sarov, will be coming to the Hill for a two week visit in July. The Los Alamos Sarov Sister Cities Initiative, a tax-exempt organization created to foster programs of people and information exchange between Los Alamos and Sarov, is currently seeking families with children in seventh through 11th grade to host visiting students.
The purpose of the trip, scheduled for July 6-21, is to let students know about the culture, history and geography of Los Alamos and New Mexico. This follows a visit by three Los Alamos students last summer to Sarov and to a youth summer camp near Sarov.
There will be a public event scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 17 to let the students from Sarov share their talents and their impressions of New Mexico with everyone in Los Alamos. It will be free and open to the public. The location will be announced later.
Besides the many available activities in Los Alamos, White Rock and Bandelier, the participants will be touring in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos and Carlsbad. There will be a wide range of activities, including plenty of time to get to know their host families.
