The Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team has a full weekend ahead of it in New Mexico Interscholastic Ice Hockey League play.
The Hilltoppers will play three contests in wo days starting Friday when they host the Santa Fe Blue Jackets. Friday’s game against the Blue Jackets is set for 7 p.m. at Los Alamos County Ice Rink.
Saturday, the Hilltoppers will play the St. Pius X Sartans at 10 a.m., then take on Rio Rancho at 4:15 p.m.
The St. Pius game will be played at Outpost Ice Arena in Albuquerque and the Rio Rancho game is set for Blades Arena in Rio Rancho.
Los Alamos will be going into its busy weekend with some momentum, however, particularly after upending the Taos Ice Tigers, which had been previously unbeaten, and avenging its only loss so far this season.
At Taos, Los Alamos’ Jade Castello scored five goals and added an assist, while Dillon Coyne scored twice to help pick up the big 8-3 victory. Defensively, goaltender Devin Grinder stopped 20 shots to earn the victory.
Currently, Grider is the second-ranked goalkeeper in the league with .901 save percentage.
For the Ice Tigers, Wyatt Lawson-Hall had a hand in all three of his team’s goals, scoring twice and picking up an assist.
Los Alamos fired off 32 shots on the game to Taos’ 23.
