The Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team picked up a pair of big wins this weekend, including a decisive victory over one of their main rivals.
Los Alamos upended the Taos Ice Tigers Saturday afternoon, taking an 8-3 road victory to improve to 6-1 on the New Mexico Interscholastic Ice Hockey League season. Just one night earlier at home, the Hilltoppers earned a 5-1 win over the Cibola Cougars.
Saturday’s win gave the Hilltoppers a measure of revenge against the Tigers, who handed them their only loss of the season, that coming in their opener Nov. 12.
Statistics weren’t available from Saturday’s game as of press time.
Friday, the Hilltoppers outshot the Cougars 28-24 en route to the victory. Hilltopper Chase Havemann picked up two goals and an assist to lead the offensive effort.
Between the pipes, Devin Grider stopped 23 shots to earn the victory. His counterpart, Antonio Santiago, had a busy night himself, earning 23 saves.
