Jade Costello is quickly getting a reputation as the go-to closer of the Los Alamos Hilltopper hockey team.
Los Alamos took on the Santa Fe Blue Jackets Friday night at Los Alamos County Ice Rink. In that contest, won 5-1 by Los Alamos, the Hilltoppers found lots of scoring opportunities and Costello, a newcomer, finished them off.
Costello posted his second 5-goal performance of the season Friday, coming in back-to-back contests. Costello posted five goals the previous weekend against previously unbeaten Taos.
Los Alamos (5-1) found itself down early in the first period on a goal by Santa Fe’s Christian Vigil, a 1-0 lead that would hold up until midway through the second period when Costello started getting hot.
Costello tied the score off an assist by Graham Delano, the would come back just three minutes later to pick up an unassisted goal which would ultimately prove to be the game-winner.
In the third period, Costello picked up the hat trick with his goal at the 8:15 mark, his fourth of the season, then tally twice more late in the contest.
