The front line of the Los Alamos Hilltopper football team outmuscled the Albuquerque Academy Chargers Friday night en route to an upset win for Homecoming.

Los Alamos fullback Arnoldo Oritz rushed for 200 yards and scored a touchdown as the Hilltoppers tripped up the favored Chargers 36-20 at Sullivan Field.

The Hilltoppers scored three unanswered touchdowns in the first half after the Chargers returned an errant lateral pass for a touchdown on the Hilltoppers’ first possession.

But Los Alamos used some big plays throughout the contest, including runs of 24, 33 and 35 yards by Ortiz and a 50-yard touchdown pass from Danny Finn to Cory Geyer in the first quarter.

“They did exactly what they practiced tonight,” Los Alamos head coach Garett Williams said of his team. “That was an awesome thing to see.”

More information on the Hilltoppers’ victory will be in Sunday’s Los Alamos Monitor.
