The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer team was victorious Thursday on the road, topping the Rio Rancho Rams in overtime.
Los Alamos and Rio Rancho both scored early in the first half, but the two teams played the rest of regulation scoreless.
In the 83rd minute, Hilltopper Amy Neal hit a shot into the corner of the Rio Rancho goal off an assist from Meghan McDonald to pick up 2-1 victory.
It was the fourth straight win to start the season off for the Hilltoppers, who now have a week off until the Albuquerque Academy Invitational.
“(The Rams) are ranked No. 4 in the big schools, so that’s a good win,” Los Alamos head coach Jiri Kubicek said. “It was a great effort.”
The Hilltoppers will take on another good Class 5A school, Cleveland, in the opening round at Academy.
