The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team will have an important contest against its arch-rival tonight in Griffith Gymnasium.
The Hilltoppers (9-15 overall, 2-4 in 2-4A) are in need of a win to improve their standings in the district race and will need to pick it up against the Española Valley Sundevils.
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Sundevils (8-15, 2-3) are in much the same position as the Hilltoppers. The winner of tonight’s game has a shot at the No. 3 position in the upcoming district tournament, which means a first-round tournament bye.
The two teams met Jan. 24 at Española Valley, with the Sundevils holding on for a 37-33 win.
The Sundevils are the defending state 4A champions but have had a rocky regular season and are in danger of missing out on the 2011-12 playoffs altogether.
Los Alamos topped Santa Fe 47-41 for its second district win Tuesday.
