What the Moriarty Pintos weren’t able to do in the first three quarters Tuesday night, they were able to do in the fourth.
Moriarty knocked off the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team 53-45 Tuesday at Griffith Gymnasium, handing Los Alamos its second straight loss following up its season-opening win a week earlier.
Los Alamos led 31-26 after three quarters, but Moriarty scored 27 points, controlling both the offensive and defensive glass in the final quarter, to pull out the victory. Los Alamos finished with one field goal in the fourth quarter.
It was the first win of the season for the Pintos (1-3) who had dropped two straight games to Class 4A opponents before the come-from-behind win.
Los Alamos will get little chance to recuperate from Tuesday’s contest, as it will be on the road tonight facing Class 3A opponent St. Michael’s. St. Michael’s will be short-handed tonight, however, as its football team is playing in the 3A championship game this weekend and several members of the football team also play basketball.
Saturday, the Hilltoppers (1-2) fell to Piedra Vista, another 4A program, 57-44 in Farmington.
