David Knapp received the highest postseason honors for 2011, culminating in an invitation to this summer’s All-Star Game.
Knapp, the Los Alamos Hilltopper football team’s top defensive performer in the 2011 regular season, was named to the North Class 4A-5A All-Star team. The All-Star selections were released Thursday by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.
At the game, scheduled for Aug. 1 at Milne Stadium in Albuquerque, Knapp will be accompanied by two other District 2-4A representatives, safety Josh Roybal of Santa Fe and Ken Noel, head coach of Bernalillo. Former Santa Fe quarterback Jason Fitzpatrick, who transferred to Rio Rancho, also made the North roster.
Knapp was picked as one of a corps of four linebackers for the North team, along with Quintin Rizek of St. Pius X, Cory Saxon of Aztec and Michael LiRosi of Cleveland.
In 2011, Knapp led the Hilltopper defense to three shutout victories in four district contests. For the season, he racked up 98 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss and eight quarterback sacks.
He was also credited with five forced fumbles and four pass defenses.
For his efforts, Knapp was named the 2-4A Defensive Player of the Year.
Cleveland and Manzano each had five representatives on the North squad, while Mayfield had five selections for the South.
To be considered for the All-Star teams, players must be graduating seniors.
