Best Western Hilltop House Hotel owners Ron and Kim Selvage say they are thrilled with the newest addition to their hotel family – new Food and Beverage Manager Angelee Novak who joined the hotel in early December.
“Angelee is approaching this job as the consummate professional,” Kim Selvage said. “Her level of customer service is an example to us all. Ron and I are so pleased that she is part of our team.”
Novak, 26, was born in Santa Fe and grew up in Los Alamos. After graduating from Los Alamos High School, she attended college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock where she studied English.
“I moved back here to raise my children in this amazing community,” Novak said. “I went through school here and believe there is no better place to raise children.”
Novak’s daughter Alayna, 2, and son Gavin, 4, are adapting very well, she said.
“We love it here,” Novak said during an interview Thursday. “There are more things going on than meet the eye and working in this position at the hotel provides me an opportunity to be a part of many exciting events.”
Novak enjoys the business and said she particularly appreciated a Christmas party and a wedding held at the hotel since she came onboard.
“Parties are always fun and getting to see a beautiful bride with everything going the way she wanted, and seeing the smile on everyone’s faces because the event went smashingly was wonderful. It’s so rewarding to know we have a big part in such important events in people’s lives.”
The most challenging part of managing the food and beverage department is accommodating everyone wanting to hold events at the Hilltop House.
“Summer is coming and we’re getting booked up quickly,” Novak said. “Whether parties, meetings, graduations, weddings or other events, we strive to make sure there’s room for everybody.”
Novak entered the food and beverage industry through waitressing. She worked with several restaurant owners and recalled how they “poured their heart into their work.”
“Ron and Kim and everyone who works here at the Hilltop House Hotel do as well,” she said. “We provide an important service to the community and the laboratory and it’s great to be a part of it. I enjoy that we all work as a team – each team member deserves a lot of credit because it takes each and every one of us contributing our part to make these events successful.”
Novak’s father, Scott Apgar, is a systems specialist in the Safeguards Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Her mother, Wendy Apgar, worked in security for Los Alamos Public Schools.
Her uncles Sheldon Apgar and Sean Apgar also work at LANL. Even Novak’s grandfathers, Lou Cutler and Stewart Apgar and her grandmother Betty who’s married to Stewart, all worked at the lab. Stewart worked in metallurgy research and Cutler worked at the Meson facility at LANSCE.
The Hilltop House Hotel is at 400 Trinity Drive at Central Ave. Amenities include a heated indoor pool, on-site sauna and spa and a hot breakfast with signature waffle bar served daily.
Guests are greeted with a complimentary beverage in the Aspen Lounge when they first arrive at the hotel. There is a steam room and exercise facility. Every room comes equipped with a microwave, refrigerator and high-speed Internet access. Guests have the option to upgrade to one of 19 spacious suites on the premises.
Meeting rooms have audio/visual equipment and expert in-house audio/visual staff available as well as professional meeting planners and event coordinators.
