Art exhibits
Local Color: Judy Chicago in New Mexico 1984-2014 runs through Oct. 12.

Zane Bennett Contemporary Art, Santa Fe, in collaboration with Mizuma Art Gallery, Tokyo, announces IMPACTS! an exhibition of Japanese contemporary art. Show will run from Aug. 19-23, ZBCA will host a series of special events relating to Japanese contemporary art and culture at the gallery, including panel discussions, film viewings, artist talks, a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony and a live painting by AI Kato. There will be a grand opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 22. This exhibition will run through to Sept. 22.

Zane Bennett Contemporary Art is announces Yazzie Johnson and Gail Bird: Native American Contemporary Jewelry. The public reception will be from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 21. The artists will be present.

Encaustic Art Institute Gallery presents “The Art of Nature and all that is Natural.” Noon to 5 p.m. Through Sept. 1 at the Institute’s Pyramid Gallery in Cerrillos.

Museums
“Turquoise, Water, Sky: The Stone and Its Meaning” at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. People in the Southwest have used turquoise for jewelry and ceremonial purposes and traded valuable stones both within and outside the region for more than 1,000 years. The exhibit presents hundreds of necklaces, bracelets, belts, rings, earrings, silver boxes and other objects illustrating how the stone was used and its deep significance to the people of the region. Show runs through March 2016.

The New Mexico History Museum resumes a schedule of offering Free Friday Nights, 5–8 p.m., every week through October. A Free First Friday Curator Talk. Photo archivist Daniel Kosharek, co-curator of the new exhibit, “Poetics of Light: Pinhole Photography,” leads a casual walk through the gallery, 6 p.m.

The Harwood Museum of Art in Taos will exhibit 121 works donated by Gus Foster, an avid art collector and Museum supporter, through Sept. 7.
