HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM MDT THIS EVENING...

AT ABOUT 6:15 P.M., ONE OF THE HIGHEST WIND GUSTS OF THE DAY WAS CLOCKED AT 52 MPH AT LOS ALAMOS AIRPORT.

* LOCATION... THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS AND HIGH TERRAIN OF NEW MEXICO ALONG AND NEAR THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE... AS WELL AS THE CHUSKA AND JEMEZ MOUNTAINS.

* WINDS... SOUTH SOUTHWEST 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 55 OR 60 MPH... BECOMING WEST LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

* TIMING... WINDS WILL STRENGTHEN THIS AFTERNOON AND PEAK MID TO LATE AFTERNOON. WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DECREASE BY MID EVENING.

* VISIBILITY... VISIBILITIES WILL BE REDUCED BELOW ONE MILE AT TIMES IN AREAS PRONE TO BLOWING DUST.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... STRONG CROSS WINDS WILL IMPACT TRAVEL ALONG WEST TO EAST ORIENTED ROADS INITIALLY... THEN ALONG NORTH TO SOUTH ROADS BY LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING AS WINDS BECOME WEST. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST WILL CREATE SUDDEN CHANGES IN VISIBILITIES. DAMAGE TO ROOF TOPS... UTILITY POLES AND OTHER STRUCTURES WILL BE POSSIBLE.

STRONG WINDS ALOFT WILL MIX DOWN TO THE SURFACE... FIRST ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST AND WEST CENTRAL AREAS OF NEW MEXICO... GRADUALLY SPREADING FARTHER EAST AND NORTH THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING. WHILE THE WINDS WILL BEGIN DIMINISHING IN THE WESTERN HIGH TERRAIN THIS EVENING... THE STRONG WINDS WILL LIKELY PERSIST UNTIL AT LEAST MIDNIGHT ALONG THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN.
