The Boy Scouts of Troop 222 recently completed a new tricycle track for the preschool program at Barranca Mesa Elementary School. The project, which took five weekends to complete, involved cleaning and preparing the playground area, meeting with the preschool teachers to design and layout the new track, obtaining the necessary materials and painting the new roadway.“The preschoolers will use the track as a guide for riding their tricycles.” Carrie Johnson, a Barranca preschool teacher, said. “This really helps to develop and coordinate their motor skills. The children are very excited for the weather to get warmer so they can use it.”Paula Dean, principal of Barranca Mesa Elementary, thanked those involved. “This track is another wonderful example of the fine things which happen to help children when a community comes together,” she said. “ Thanks to the Boy Scouts of Troop 222, our preschoolers have an appealing and safe place to ride their bikes as they grow important muscles!”“Rank advancement from Star to Life Scout requires a service project,” Thomas Crotzer, who led the project, said. “My sister is enrolled in the Barranca preschool program. I thought it would be neat if I could help out my sister and her classmates by creating a new tricycle track for them to use.
