The League of Women Voters will have their monthly Lunch with a Leader Sept. 13 at a new location — the top floor of the Mesa Public Library. The speakers will be Tom Nagawiecki, Los Alamos Environmental Services specialist and Sandra West, outreach coordinator at the Los Alamos Co-op.
Food will be catered by the Los Alamos Co-op. When RSVPing, attendees can order either a whole sandwich, or a box lunch, a half sandwich with soup or salad. All orders include chips and a cookie.
The League will provide water. The total cost will be $10, which includes tax and gratuity.
Learn about some of the new recycling programs that will help keep more material out of the landfill, such as the glass drop-off recycling program and provide insight on how to ensure the program is successful.
West will present the co-op’s recycling programs and goals for the future.
The co-op operates on a triple bottom line: performance, people, planet. They measure the success of the co-op through the balance and success of the three parts.
They support the planet in a variety of ways through their products and vendors and now have a program for the community to partner with the Co-op on recycling efforts.
Nagawiecki coordinates public education and outreach for the county Environmental Services’ comprehensive waste and recycling programs that are provided to residents and the business community.
Other duties include leading the county’s sustainability initiative, which is focused on reducing the environmental impact of county operations in addition to educating the community about their role in the effort.
West has been working at the co-op as coordinator for the past year. She brings a wide range of experience to her work at the co-op, including more than two years working with youth from elementary to high school.
To RSVP, email Karyl Ann Armbruster at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 661-6605 by 8 p.m. Tuesday. Menu choices will be available when RSVPing. If attendees do not order in advance there will be no food available; however, they are still welcome to attend. They can also bring their own lunch.
All members of the community are invited to come to any league event, membership is not required.
