Has anyone thought of the schools?

Dear Editor,The possibility of more than 400 families living either at Trinity Site or in housing adjacent to Trinity Site should cause concern for Los Alamos Public Schools, especially since the closest grade school is now rental property and since children from the new housing will most probably have to be bused to Aspen Elementary. However, that was not apparent Nov. 28, at the Planning and Zoning meeting when the commission approved the rezoning of what is called the A-8 parcel to Multi-family Residential (Very High Density) District. Criterion C from the development code states, “Consideration shall be given to the existing and programmed capacity of on-site and off-site public services and facilities including but not limited to water, sanitary sewer, electricity, gas, storm sewer, streets, sidewalks, traffic control, parks, fire and police to adequately serve the property should a rezoning result in any increase of the intensity of use of the property.” LAPS does provide a public service, and additional housing will certainly result in an increase of the intensity of use of the property.
