The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls golf team earned a pair of state qualification legs at the two-day Grants Invitational.
The Grants Invitational, played at Coyote del Malpais Golf Course, included some very tough boys and girls teams from around the state.
Los Alamos’ girls shot a 370 in Monday’s first round to earn a qualification leg, the followed that up by shooting a 386 Tuesday for their second leg.
Both the Hilltopper boys and girls teams took part in the tournament. The Hilltopper boys placed fourth in team competition Monday.
Individually, Sean Rau and Jonnie Osden both earned legs Monday and Osden missed a second leg Tuesday by jut one stroke.
Teams and individuals must earn three legs before May’s state championship tournament in order to be invited.
For the Hilltopper girls, Emma Haines picked up two legs at Grants, shooting an 81 Monday, then following that up with a score of 90 Tuesday. Teammate Bri Sanderson also earned a leg Monday with her score of 89.
Cleveland’s boys team won Monday’s tournament, while Kirtland Central won on the girls side. Kirtland Central also took Tuesday’s team title and they were joined by the Kirtland Central boys team at the top of that team competition.
Tristan Goodwin of Kirtland Central and Dominique Galloway of Cleveland were the top individual finishers both days.
