Ardyth Hafer, a Realtor with LA Real Estate Group in Los Alamos, is New Mexico’s 2008 Realtor of the Year. The Realtor’s Association of New Mexico’s (RANM), honored Hafer at an awards ceremony during the RANM Annual Conference at Sandia Resort and Casino on Sept. 12 in Albuquerque.
The annual RANM Realtor of the Year is awarded to an outstanding leader who has committed time, talent and expertise to the Realtor organization, their community, and to furthering the real estate profession.
“It was such a total surprise, there are so many local Realtor of the Year awardees that you sort of think, ‘It’s never going to happen to me’,” Hafer said. “I felt total joy … I was absolutely thrilled.”
The award was kept secret from Hafer until it was announced at the beginning of the ceremony.
Her two daughters, their husbands and her two granddaughters came walking out when her name was announced, leaving her in a stunned state of shock for a moment, she said.
“This is such a huge deal in the Realtor industry and my kids know how involved I’ve been for so many years,” Hafer said. “They said they wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”
Hafer received a large traveling trophy engraved with her name along side the names of past recipients, which will be proudly displayed on her office desk for an entire year, she said.
The only other Los Alamos Realtor to receive the prestigious award was Mary Deal in 1989, Hafer said.
“Mary was my mentor for many years,” she said. “Mary was also state president in 1986 and then I followed as state president in 1993.”
“Ardy” as Hafer is often called, has been a Realtor for more than 28 years and has served on nearly every Los Alamos Association and RANM committee.
She also has represented New Mexico at the National Association of Realtors as a director and member of several committees.
Hafer and her family moved to Los Alamos in 1964. Prior to embarking on her real estate career, she taught dance at the Hafer Dance School. She continues to be involved in the community through theatre, arts and civic programs.
Hafer will be honored with other state Realtor’s of the Year during the National Association of Realtors Annual Convention Nov. 7-10 in Orlando.
The Realtors Association of New Mexico is one of the state’s largest trade associations, representing over 8,000 members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate markets throughout New Mexico.
