Gymnastics: Lucero grabs top all-around score

Los Alamos School of Gymnastics opened its competitive season at home, hosting its annual Columbus Invitational meet Saturday.

In all, 51 level 3 and level 4 gymnasts competed in the morning session, including teams from  Albuquerque, Los Lunas and Taos, as well as LASG’s Atomic Tumblers.

For the Atomic Tumblers, Luvina Lucero scored a 35.15 to win the 12-14 year old age division in level 4 competition. It was the highest all-around score recorded on the day.

Lucero took first place on vault, balance beam and floor exercise with scores of 8.95, 9.25 and 8.85. She also finished third on parallel bars with an 8.10.  

Jackie Cooke placed second in the 12-14 year old division with a score of 32.60. Cook was first on parallel bars (9.00), second on vault (8.80) and floor (7.65) and third on beam (7.15).

LASG’s Elise Kessler and Kaelen Prime competed in their first meet Saturday.

Kessler placed second on bars (8.20) and third on vault (8.50) in the 12-14 year old division. Prime, meanwhile, competed in the level 4, 10-11 year old age division, placing sixth all-around. She was fourth on bars (8.10) and fifth on beam (8.175).

Another LASG gymnast winning her age division in the level 4 competition was Sydney Schake. Schake won the 9-year-old division with an all-around score of 34.325.  

Schake finished first on vault (8.95), bars (8.50) and floor (8.425) and was second on beam (8.45).   

Placing third in the 9-year-old division was Jenna Weatherbie, who finished with a total of 32.60. Weatherbie was second on vault with an 8.65 and third on floor and bars with scores of 8.10 on each.

Sophie Jeffery was fifth in that same division scoring a 31.75.  She also placed fifth on floor (8.00) and bars (7.85).

Ramya Stevens was fifth on vault (8.40) and sixth on bars (7.00) and floor (7.10) in 9-year-old age division.  Sarah Kirkland was fifth on floor (7.20) and sixth on vault (8.30) for LASG, while Annija Westfall placed seventh on bars.

The meet was also the first for those gymnasts.

In the level 4, 8-year-old division, Carly Stilwell placed second all-around with a score of 33.95.  Stillwell placed first on vault (8.75), bars (8.30) and beam (8.35).  She finished third on floor with an 8.55.

The level 5 ages 11-and-younger also competed in the morning session.  

In that division, Megan Kuzmack took first place with a 30.95.  Kuzmack was first on bars (8.20) and beam (8.85).  

Zhou Pattillo was third in this division with a score of 29.200, taking first on vault (7.65), second on bars (7.50) and second on beam (7.85).

In Saturday’s afternoon session, ages 12-and-older  level 5, and level 6 and 7 gymnasts competed.

Hayley Schake won the level 7 competition for the Atomic Tumblers with a score of 34.875. Hayley placed first on vault (9.35), bars (8.725) and floor (9.05), while finishing third on beam, scoring a 7.75.

Placing a close second in the level 7 competition was teammate Jessica Allen, who grabbed a 34.75.  

Allen was first on beam (8.50), second on vault (9.25), floor (8.55) and bars (8.45).  

Annika Bronkhorst was third in the level 7 competition with a score of 33.30.  She was second on beam (8.05), third on vault (9.05), floor (8.35) and bars (7.85).

Claire Garnett of LASG won the level 6 competition with a 32.80.  Garnett placed first on bars (8.20), second on vault (8.40), floor (8.15) and beam (7.65) to win that competition.

Also at level 6, Katya Skurikhin placed second with a score of 32.30.  She finished first on vault (9.05) and floor (8.20) and second on bars (8.15).  

Sarah Palmer was third all-around with a score of 30.60, taking first on beam (7.75), third on vault (8.40), third on floor (7.40) and fourth on bars (7.10).  

All of those gymnasts were competing at level 6 for the first time.  

Also for the Atomic Tumblers at level 6, Chloe Darnell took third on bars 7.35. Darnell did not finish the meet, however.

At level 5, 13-15 age division, Allie Sutherland placed second with a score of 34.65.  Sutherland was second on beam (8.65), floor (8.85) and bars (8.65) and finished tied for third on vault with an 8.50.  

LASG’s Rachel Andreatta was fourth all around with a 32.15. Andreatta tied with Sutherland for third on vault (8.50) and also placed fourth on floor (8.40) and beam (7.70), while taking sixth on bars (7.55).  

Rebecca Runnales was fifth in the 13-15 division with a score of 31.90.  She placed third on floor (8.50), and fifth on vault (8.35) and bars (8.10).  

Rachel Martineau was sixth with an all-around score of 31.40, picking up fourth on bars (8.25), fifth on beam (7.00), fifth on floor (7.90) and sixth on vault (8.25).

Grace Marcille placed seventh in that division, as well.

Mikayla Pulliam was third in the level 5, 12-year-old division for the Atomic Tumblers with a score of 30.65.  She took second on bars (7.25), third on vault (7.90), beam (7.45) and floor (8.05).  

The Atomic Tumblers compete next in Los Lunas Oct. 25. Their next home meet will be held on Nov. 22.
