Gymnastics: Bronkhorst, Allen take top two spots at Los Lunas

A pair of top local gymnasts had big showings at a Nov. 21 competition in Los Lunas.

The Los Alamos Atomic Tumblers traveled to Los Lunas for the Route 66 Rock and Roll Invitational. In all, 10 teams competed at the event.

Tumblers’ level 7 competitors Annika Bronkhorst and Jessica Allen went 1-2 in the competition in what was an unusually low-scoring meet.

Bronkhorst paced the level 7 competition with an all-around score of 31.85, while Allen finished right behind her with a score of 31.75.

Bronkhorst, for her part, took second overall in floor exercises (8.50) and vault (8.90). She also finished third on the uneven parallel bars (7.00) and on the balance beam (7.45).

Allen took first place on the parallel bars (7.70), balance beam (7.95) and floor exercises (8.55). Allen also placed third in vault (7.55).

In level 6 competition, Megan Kuzmack was second in the all-around competition, finishing with a 32.90, while teammate Claire Garnett finished in third place, earning a 32.80. Sarah Palmer finished fifth in the all-around.

Kuzmack took first on floor (8.20), second on vault (8.90) and third on both the bars (7.90) and balance beam (8.00).

Garnett took second on beam (8.35) and bars (8.30) and fourth on vault (8.25) and floor (7.95). Palmer was sixth on vault (8.10) and floor (7.50).

Luvina Lucero had the top place for the Tumblers in level 5, age 12-and-over competition. Lucero finished fourth in the all-around, picking up a 33.20.

Teammate Mikayla Pulliam finished sixth with a 31.00.

In that competition, Lucero was second on bars (8.60), third on vault (8.35) and fifth on both the beam (8.30) and floor (7.95). Pulliam won the vault (8.60) and finished sixth on the parallel bars (7.55).

In the level 5, 11-and-under division, Carley Stilwell was sixth overall for Los Alamos. Stilwell was third on vault (7.75) and fourth on floor exercises (8.15).

In that same division, Jenna Weatherbie was fifth on balance beam (8.40) and floor (7.60).

In the level 4, 10-and-under division, Dominique Lucero finished fourth overall, earning a 31.75 all-around score, while Katrina Vinyard was sixth with a 31.45.

Lucero finished third on beam (7.70) and fifth on bars (8.05). Vinyard was second on vault (8.75) and sixth on floor (7.70).

Ramya Stevens was seventh in the level 4, 10-and-under division for the Tumblers. Stevens was fourth on vault (8.55) and beam (7.60) and finished sixth on bars (8.00).

Sally Grindstaff was third on vault (8.70) and fifth on bars (7.30) in the level 4, 11-and-over age division for Los Alamos.

The Atomic Tumblers will go to the Albuquerque Gold Cup Gymnastics meet Jan. 16.

The team will host the Snowflake Invitational Jan. 30.
